About CFG

Charity Finance Group (CFG) is the charity that inspires a financially confident, dynamic and trustworthy charity sector. We do this by championing best practice, nurturing leadership and influencing policy makers.

More than 1,450 UK charities turn to us to develop their finance management knowledge and skills. Collectively, these charities manage £22bn of funds – that represents around a third of the entire charity sector’s income.

At a challenging time for charity funding, it’s more vital than ever to ensure that money is making the biggest impact possible; it’s our role to empower charities to do this through championing best practice, nurturing leadership and influencing policy makers.

“Focus is crucial at a time when charities are facing uncertainty that can only be overcome by boldly seizing opportunities. We strongly believe that great financial leadership makes for agile, dynamic and impactful organisations.”Caron Bradshaw, CEO Charity Finance Group

Feedback from our members shows that our programme of events and training, specialist helplines, monthly magazines and key resources improves their financial confidence and enables them to achieve more for their beneficiaries.

In financial year 2021-2022 alone we ran a total of 37 events and webinars, attended by nearly 3,000 delegates on topics as wide ranging as gift aid, investment, risk, IT, finance for non-finance managers, pensions, as well as our annual regional conferences where our members can connect at local level. We’re proud of the consistently positive feedback we receive from delegates.

At our Annual Conference 2022:

  • 97% delegates said that their skills had improved
  • 95% said that they felt more confident about the next steps they need to take and how to implement them
  • 94% reported that they had greater awareness of best practice in charity finance

“I’m so glad I attended the course. I really rated the speakers, they were always very knowledgeable and shared their experiences “warts and all”. Now I can lead with confidence through doing and being – and hopefully inspire and motivate the people around me.”Joyce Materego Director of Finance and Resources, Child Poverty Action Group

At CFG, we know how poor policy decisions and bad laws or regulations can be a significant drain on charity resources. Our work plays a vital role in shaping policy and influencing decision makers, helping to build a better operating environment for all charities.

We have a unique insight into the challenges that charities face through our consultation events and surveys. These give us the opportunity to engage with - and receive feedback from - hundreds of charities, making us a leading voice for charities on key finance issues.

Key themes that charities tell us about include The Apprenticeships Levy, Brexit, Gift Aid, Making Tax Digital, regulatory changes, and accounting changes. These are just some of the areas that we have worked on to ensure that the issues facing the charity sector are understood and accounted for by government.
