Smart financial planning in times of uncertainty

This session will explore practical approaches to financial planning that help organisations remain resilient and adaptable. We will cover scenario planning, cashflow forecasting, reserves policy, cost recovery, and stress-testing budgets against different funding outcomes. Speakers will also examine how finance teams can support strategic decision-making, ensuring boards have the information and confidence to act early rather than react late.

Payroll and employment law update

In this practical update, we will explore the latest developments affecting payroll and employment in Scotland, with a specific focus on what they mean for charities and third‑sector organisations. The session will cover key considerations for payroll reporting practicalities as well as compliant salary sacrifice schemes that can offer National Insurance savings for the third sector employers, as well as employee tax savings. As well as updated rules around holiday pay calculations, statutory payments, and emerging employment law considerations that are particularly relevant for organisations with mixed funding models and diverse workforce arrangements.

We will also examine common payroll risks faced by charities - such as managing grant‑funded roles, navigating different worker types, and ensuring accurate governance reporting as well as the responsibilities placed on trustees, senior leaders and finance teams. Attendees will gain practical guidance on how to keep payroll processes compliant, efficient and aligned with sector best practice, helping charities safeguard resources, support their staff and volunteers, and maintain public trust.

Panel discussion - Practical, ethical & safe use of AI in the charity sector

This panel brings together sector leaders and digital experts to explore how AI can be used responsibly and effectively within charitable organisations. From drafting funding bids and analysing impact data to improving service delivery and automating admin, we’ll examine real-world use cases that are already delivering value. Crucially, the discussion will go beyond the hype. Panellists will address the ethical and governance considerations charities must navigate — including data protection, bias, safeguarding, transparency, and trustee oversight — and how to build internal confidence and clear AI policies.
