Charity Finance Group releases new guidance on GDPR

Charity Finance Group has released new guidance for charities on how to prepare for the General Data Protection Rules.

The guide has been a partnership between CFG, Buzzacott, Crowe Clark Whitehill and Kingston Smith.

The guide focuses on:

  • Data governance
  • Financial data
  • Employee/volunteers data
  • Beneficiaries data

The guide has a number of checklists, examples and scenarios that charities can use to help prepare their charity for the introduction of the GDPR in May 2018.

It has been developed following consultation and engagement fr0om charities about their concerns ahead of the change in data protection rules. This new guide compliments the training workshops and webinars that CFG has already been delivering in the run up to May.

Andrew O’Brien, Director of Policy and Engagement, Charity Finance Group said:

“A lot of GDPR has been focused on fundraising, and this remains an incredibly important area. But GDPR isn’t just about fundraising. This guidance looks at other equally important areas such as protecting financial data, employee data and beneficiary data as well as how charities should approach tricky issues around consent and legitimate interest in these situations.

Charities must ensure that they consider all aspects of their data, otherwise they may leave themselves at risk.

We hope that this guidance will be useful for charities and we will be adding further training, webinars and other materials over the weeks and months ahead.”
