Embedding innovation in your organisational culture

by Jean-Francois Bessiron, Director Europe, Business, Industrial and Scientific, Amazon

Ahead of speaking at CFG’s brand new addition to its events schedule, Innovating for Success which is taking place on 29 June, Jean-Francois shares a quick preview of what he will be talking about with attendees.

In 2015 Tom Goodwin wrote "The world’s largest taxi firm, Uber, owns no cars. The world’s most popular media company, Facebook, creates no content. The world’s most valuable retailer, Alibaba, carries no stock. And the world’s largest accommodation provider, Airbnb, owns no property. Something interesting is happening".

Indeed change is happening all around us, shaping our daily lives and technology is accelerating the pace of this change. From e-commerce, to Kindle, to Cloud Services and Alexa, Amazon is considered to be one of the most innovative companies, relentlessly focusing on customer needs.

We will look at how techniques such as "Working backwards", "Two Pizza teams", "Mechanisms" and learning from failures have helped the company change the way we shop and live. But fostering a culture of innovation is not only critical for the sustainability of commercial enterprises but also in the charity sector.

Technology is disrupting the way members of the public can access, compare and share information, make donations when it suits them and how technology companies are becoming new actors, especially in the healthcare sector. Charities are adapting to this changing environment and we will explore some examples from Asthma UK’s digital transformation.

Jean-Francois Bessiron is a global digital leader with over 20 years’ experience in supply chain, commercial operations, digital marketing and technology. He has worked with large FTSE100 and NASDAQ companies and has grown new business divisions in multiple market segments in Europe, from start-up to $1bn+ revenue. In 2016 he launched AmazonFresh, a new strategic initiative to bring a new online grocery service to Amazon customers in the UK. He is currently responsible for developing new business to business (B2B) categories for Amazon across Europe.

What is innovation and why is it important for the voluntary sector? How can charities innovate and embed an innovation culture? Book now for CFG’s Innovating for Success conference on Friday 29 June in London – cfg.org.uk/innovate18.
