Online event
This free-for-members webinar is designed for international charitable organisations as part of our Overseas special interest group (OSSIG), though any CFG member is free to attend. Find out more about OSSIG and our free special interest groups below.
This session will provide practical, real-world insights into how fraud occurs and how international charities can protect themselves. Led by RSM, the session features recorded insights from a reformed fraudster who previously convinced finance teams to transfer millions of pounds into his accounts. Now working with the police and UK Government, he shares how he gained trust, exploited control weaknesses, and the warning signs organisations often miss.
The session emphasises that fraud is not a victimless crime and explores the lasting impact on organisations, staff, and beneficiaries. It focuses on the two critical pillars of fraud prevention: awareness and controls.
Why should I attend?
We will be covering:
-
How to recognise the warning signs of fraud from a perpetrator’s perspective
-
Practical ways to educate and empower staff to remain vigilant
-
Common control failures that fraudsters exploit
-
Simple, effective controls such as authorisation limits and segregation of duties, and how to ensure they are actively enforced
Please note: the session includes discussion of the emotional and organisational impact of fraud, which some participants may find distressing.
When and where?
- 10:00-11:00am
- Online via Zoom - Joining instructions will be shared one week before the event day
