"Ethical and appropriate" charity banking services raised in Parliament

Charity banking services debate in the House of Lords highlights challenges raised in CFG's new report.

In a recent House of Lords oral question, Lord Forbes of Newcastle asked the Government "what assessment they have made of the challenges faced by charities in accessing ethical and appropriate banking services; and what steps they are taking to ensure that voluntary organisations can obtain reliable, affordable and compliant banking provision".

The debate highlighted many of the issues charities continue to raise, including burdensome banking processes, declining access to in-person services (particularly for rural organisations), and the impact of de-banking. You can read the full debate here: Charities: Banking Services.

As we continue to promote our 2026 Charity Banking Report, it's encouraging to see these challenges receiving parliamentary attention. Our recent report explores these issues in depth, drawing on the experiences of almost 2,500 charities across the UK.
