PIB Insurance Brokers, sponsors of CFG's Annual Conference on 25 June, talks to CFG team about what makes it a must-attend event and shares what charities can do to adapt in uncertain times.

The CFG team is delighted that PIB Insurance Brokers are once again supporting CFG’s Annual Conference by sponsoring the drinks reception. What does this year’s Annual Conference theme – Empowering Change, Inspiring Progress – mean to you in the context of your work with charitable organisations?
This theme reflects how we want to work alongside our charity clients, not just for them. For us, it means helping charities build the confidence, resilience and protection they need to focus on the communities and people they support, whether that’s through specialist risk and insurance advice, practical support, or sharing our expertise and time.
When we give charities the confidence of being secure and well supported, they can be bolder in their ambitions. Through the way we advise and protect, we can help empower charities to reach more people, deliver greater impact and drive meaningful change.
Since last year’s conference we’ve seen some big changes on a global scale but also at the sector level. How are the charities you work with adapting to change, and what support or advice have they looked to you for?
We’re seeing charities adapt in really practical ways such as rethinking how they deliver services, diversifying income, and investing more time in governance, people and technology. Many are having to do more with less, while managing rising demand, cost pressures and increasing scrutiny from regulators, funders and the public.
We have and will continue to support charities by regularly reviewing their insurance programmes, highlighting relevant changes in regulations which could affect them, continuously educating them on good practice, and highlighting the importance of reconsidering previously uninsured areas.
We also increasingly act as a sounding board for many of our clients when they consider planning growth or change within their organisation, so that they are aware of all the risks and insurance implications that arise.
Are there any insights you’d like to share with charities at this time about how they mitigate risk and protect their organisations during periods of uncertainty?
In uncertain times, it really helps to focus on a few essentials rather than trying to manage every possible risk, for example:
- Know your critical risks – identify the small number of issues that could seriously disrupt your services, ensure your key contingency plans (Business Continuity, Cyber etc) are reviewed and updated.
- Tidy up governance and decision making – make sure there are clear roles, policies are up to date, and records of key decisions are kept so that all help show that risks are being managed appropriately.
- Update cover when things change
New projects, partnerships, mergers/acquisitions, purchase of new properties can all create gaps or additional liabilities. A brief review with professionals well versed in these areas can ensure insurance programmes and indemnity is still sufficient.
Inspiring others is at the heart of CFG’s Annual Conference. Who or what has inspired you and your work lately?
Lately, we’ve been inspired by the charity leaders and trustees we work with who are navigating mergers, restructures and funding pressures while staying rooted in their mission. Their willingness to embrace difficult change, protect their people and communities, and still look for new ways to deliver impact is remarkable.
Watching boards lean into collaboration rather than competition, and being open about what they don’t yet know, has really shaped how we approach our own work - with more humility, curiosity and a focus on long‑term partnership over quick wins.
How would you describe the conference to someone who has never been?
It’s an excellent opportunity to learn and connect with counterparts from other similar organisations, and to hear from experts within their fields, at a time when the sector is under real pressure, and the advice and guidance is truly valued.
What are you looking forward to most?
Catching up with the many familiar faces we know at the conference, and of course making new connections!
Finally, what would you say to those thinking about coming along to the Conference who haven’t yet booked?
If you’re considering it but haven’t booked yet, we'd encourage you to see this as a great use of time to focus on the charity’s future and, critically, resilience.
Thank you for your time. We look forward to seeing you there!
