Gift Aid Awareness Day 2025: Thank you for supporting our campaign!

On Thursday 9 October, CFG held another successful Gift Aid Awareness Day (GAAD), and it was fantastic to see so many charities, corporate partners and sector organisations come together to highlight the importance of this vital tax relief.

Social media was awash with thousands of posts encouraging donors to #TickTheBox, our webinar with HMRC attracted more than 100 attendees, and the collective energy from across the sector was truly inspiring. We'd like to say a huge thank you to everyone who supported this year's campaign – whether you shared our resources, posted on social media, spoke to your donors, or simply spread the word within your networks.

Why Gift Aid Awareness Day matters

Gift Aid remains one of the most valuable sources of income for UK charities, yet around £560 million goes unclaimed every year. That's money that could transform communities, fund vital services and save lives across the country.

For every £1 donated, Gift Aid adds an extra 25p at no cost to the donor. It's a simple mechanism, but its impact is profound. Nearly half of charity leaders say they couldn't provide all their current services without Gift Aid income, emphasising the importance of this vital tax relief.

Research shows that 80% of the public already agree that everyone should be encouraged to donate with Gift Aid. The problem, however, is that nearly 25% of donors simply forget to tick the box.

That's where campaigns like GAAD come in. By making Gift Aid awareness part of every donation conversation, we can close that £560 million gap and ensure charities receive every penny they're entitled to.

The impact of collective action

The evidence shows that awareness campaigns work. Following last year's GAAD, Gift Aid payments hit £1.7 billion – up 7% from the previous year. This demonstrates what we can achieve when the sector comes together with a unified message.

This year's campaign reached even more people, with engagement across social media, email newsletters, websites and direct donor communications. Whether you're a small community organisation or a large national charity, your participation made a real difference in spreading the message that one simple tick can transform a donation's impact.

Looking ahead to 2026

Our attention now turns to next year, and we'd love for 2026 to be the biggest Gift Aid Awareness Day yet. The momentum we're building year on year shows that sustained, collective effort is working – but there's still so much more we can do.

If you'd like to get involved in planning next year's campaign, or if you have ideas about how we can reach even more donors and close that £560 million gap, we'd love to hear from you. Together, we can make Gift Aid impossible to ignore and ensure that every eligible donation counts.

Thank you again for your support, your creativity and your commitment to making Gift Aid awareness a priority. We're already looking forward to working with you again in 2026.
