On Gift Aid Awareness Day 2024, Charity Finance Group (CFG) will join with thousands of other charities to ask the generous British public to support their favourite charities by 'ticking the box' and applying Gift Aid to their donations.
The power of Gift Aid
Gift Aid is a vital source of income for thousands of charities across the UK. Gift Aid and the Gift Aid Small Donations Scheme are worth £1.6 billion to UK charities annually. By ticking the box and applying Gift Aid to your donations, you are helping to support the incredible work they do in your community.
What is Gift Aid?
Gift Aid is a government tax relief scheme that allows charities to claim an additional 25% on eligible donations from UK taxpayers. This means that for every £1 you donate, the charity can receive an extra 25p, significantly increasing the impact of your generosity.
How to make a difference:
- Tick The Box: Whenever you make a donation to a UK charity, be sure to tick the Gift Aid box on the donation form.
- Share the campaign: Join us on Thursday 3 October and use the #TickTheBox hashtag on social media to help support your favourite charity by raising awareness of Gift Aid. Download our social media toolkit and get involved!
- Small donations count: Even small donations can make a big difference when Gift Aid is applied. The Gift Aid Small Donations Scheme (GASDS) allows charities to claim Gift Aid on cash or contactless card donations as small as £30.
- Shop with charity retailers: When purchasing items from charity shops, ask if they offer Gift Aid. Many charity shops allow you to claim Gift Aid on your purchases.
On this year's Gift Aid Awareness Day on Thursday 3 October, thousands of charities across the UK will be taking to social media to share more about the importance of Gift Aid and to encourage donors to #TickTheBox when making donations. About CFG
CFG is the charity and membership organisation that supports other charitable organisations to make the biggest difference possible. We do this by helping them to make their money and resources go further, by putting financial leadership at the heart of their decision-making. Since CFG was founded in 1987, we have evolved to welcome all finance professionals working for charitable and social change organisations. We also welcome non-finance professionals who recognise that we deliver greater impact when we are financially confident, trustworthy and dynamic. Today, CFG’s vibrant community manages around one third of the UK’s entire charity sector income. We are a diverse and inclusive community of people who are passionate about delivering impact through financial leadership. Together, we lead the way for charity finance.
CFG launched Gift Aid Awareness Day in October 2018 to help charities maximise their Gift Aid claims and to raise greater awareness of Gift Aid. More information.
